Associate

Jillian practices in the fields of insurance coverage, insurance special investigations (SIU), bad faith, insurance defense and general corporate defense.

Jillian’s first six years of practice were spent in Portland, Oregon, before joining Forsberg & Umlauf’s Seattle office. Jillian has spent the majority of her practice representing insurance companies and their insureds, as well as corporations in breach of contract and tort defense. Jillian has done significant SIU and coverage work for her insurer clients. Jillian provides clients with coverage advice with respect to a variety of lines of insurance, as well as working with insurance companies’ SIU departments and taking examinations under oath, and also defending bad faith lawsuits.

Representative Cases

  • Represented an insurer in coverage and bad faith litigation in the United States District Court (D. Idaho), with punitive damages at issue, against its insured. After a jury trial, received a defense verdict with a finding that the insured was involved in setting the fire to the home and misrepresenting material facts on their personal property inventory. 
  • Represented an insurer in a Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage litigation in Oregon State Court, received defense verdict after a jury trial, with a finding that the insured had made material misrepresentations to the insurer. 
  • Represented an insurer in a coverage litigation in United States District Court (Western District of Wash.) and received summary judgment dismissal of the lawsuit on suit limitations language.
